Snyder Avenue Congregational Church can be found at the corner of 3rd St. and Snyder Ave. in South Philadelphia in a neighborhood full of families. The building is almost 110 years old and has many beautiful stained glass windows in the main sanctuary. We are a member of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (the CCCC) and as stated on our denomination's web site:
"The Conservative Congregational Christian Conference is a theologically conservative denomination believing strongly in the autonomy of the local church... It is solidly committed to the basic doctrines of the Christian faith, but allows for diversity in those areas where Christians have tended to disagree. Its members hold strong convictions, but do not believe that Christians should divide over secondary issues. As an evangelical denomination, it is strongly committed to evangelism and missions."
Snyder Ave. Congregational is also host to an Indonesian Baptist church that meets at 8:30am on Sundays, a Hispanic Pentecostal church (Iglesia De Dios Pent.) that meets at 1pm on Sundays, and a Cambodian Baptist church that meets at 3pm on Sundays. Our main worship service is at 11am on Sunday mornings in our chapel. If you'd like to join us you can come in through the Snyder Ave. side door, with the cross shaped windows, and bear slightly right once inside. This is actually the original sanctuary, the larger part was added a number of years later.
We combine the use of both traditional hymns and new praise songs in our worship. As long as it praises Jesus, we’ll sing it! We also have a number of programs such as Sunday School, Bible Study, Sweet Hour of Prayer, Praise Team, and more! One of the strongest aspects of our church, however, is the family atmosphere. There is a lot of love at this church and after attending a couple services, you’ll feel like family. We hope to see you soon!
